Simple Change of the Polar
Alignment Light on an HEQ5 Pro MounT

I have a HEQ5 Pro mount that is connected to my computer using EQMOD. The problem is that when you use this setup you can not change the brightness of the Polar Alignment light on the mount. If you use the SynScan control you can change the brightness.
To change this there are solution out there that tell you how you can add a resistor to the LED or a potential meter to manually adjust the brightness.

For me that was all a bit to much of a project and wanted something simpler.
Before I got my HEQ5 Pro, I used an EQ5 mount. For this mount I had a little polar illuminator like the one here on the right,

Unfortunately this will not fit on an HEQ5 Pro.

But with a little adapter, it can make it fit. And as I have a 3D Printer, it should be easy enough to design and print one.
This is what I did and you can find the adapter here on ThingiVerse.

To disable the build in LED you need to remove the cover plate of the HEQ5 Pro. This can be done by undoing 5 screws. See here on the right.

Once opened up you can to disconnect polar LED by disconnecting the wires with the little red arrow (see image on the right)

After you have done this, just screw the top cover back on and you are done.
Now you can add the printed adaptor to your EQ5 Polar Illuminator and fit it on your HEQ5 Pro for Polar Alignment.
